Location & Transportation

Tampere is centrally located and easy to reach from within Finland. About two thirds of the Finnish population lives within 200 kilometres from Tampere. Several highways and railway lines intersect in the city, making it a major transportation hub.

BY AIR

We recommend straight flight to Tampere-Pirkkala Airport, located only 16 km from the city center. There are direct flights to Tampere from for example Stockholm (Sweden, SAS), Riga (Latvia, AirBaltic), Bremen (Germany, Ryanair) and Budapest (Hungary, Ryanair).

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, Finland’s international air travel hub, is only a two-hour drive away from Tampere. Fly time from Helsinki to Tampere is only 25 minutes. The new Helsinki area Ring Railway connects Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to the Helsinki-Tampere Railway. Train from Helsinki-Vantaa to Tampere will take about two hours. Buses run between Helsinki-Vantaa airport and Tampere around the clock.

BY TRAIN AND CAR

Trains from Russia (St. Petersburg 3.5 hours; Moscow 13.5 hours) run daily. Finland is easily accessible by car from Eastern and Central Europe; see car-carrying ferry options below.

BY SEA

International travel options to Helsinki include ferries from Tallinn, Estonia (2–3 hours), Stockholm, Sweden (overnight) and Travemünde/Lübeck, Germany (27 hours). There are also daily ferries between Stockholm and Turku (10–12 hours); direct trains from Port of Turku to Tampere take around two hours.
